Inaugural Multicultural Media Correspondents Dinner
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday, May 26, at the National Press Club Ballroom, Vote it Loud and partners hosted the inaugural Multicultural Media Correspondents Dinner (MMCD). The dinner was an exclusive invitation-only black tie gathering that brought together the who’s who from politics, entertainment, sports, and business while honoring diverse media pioneers and innovators. As a counter reflection to the well-known White House Correspondents dinner, this event highlighted the importance of multicultural media domestically and internationally.
MMCD was hosted by, Chris Spencer (actor/comedian/writer & producer); with honorees: Jamie Foxx (actor, singer, songwriter and comedian) received the Media Icon award, Richard Lui (Journalist and Anchor from MSNBC and NBC) received the Champion in Media – Broadcast Journalism (Politics) award, Blanquita Cullum (host of The Hard Question) received the Champion in Media – Radio award, Todd Brown (CEO of The Grio) received the Champion in Media – Fifth Estate (Online Media) award, Cenk Uygur (Host & Co-Founder of The Young Turks) received the Champion in Media – Fifth Estate (TV) award, Patricia Guadalupe (Journalist) received the Champion in Media – Print award accepted for her by Danny Vargas (Hispanic Community Leader, Media Commentator, and Air Force Veteran), Victor Shiblie (publisher of The Washington Diplomat) received the Champion in Media – International award, Kim Keenan (CEO of the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council – MMTC) received the Media Executive of the Year award, and Armstrong Williams (Founder & CEO of Howard Stirk Holdings) received the Media Owner of the Year award; lifetime achievement award recipient the Honorable Charles B. Rangel (U.S. House of Representatives, D-NY, 13th District); special recognition to the Honorable Yvette Clarke (U.S. House of Representatives, D-NY, 9th District); Vote it Loud board members; sports and entertainment celebrities; media correspondents; advertising influencers; multicultural civic group leaders; and many more.
